Lot 1127 Tin Underground Teapot Lamp NV - Austin,Lander County - c1900 - Mining Hard goods/Important Mining P
A unique long-spouted tin lamp with a screw top and bail handle. Made my Parker Tin and Hardware Co. in Austin. The company operated from about 1895-1910 and made underground teapot lamps, and possibly candle holders. Measures 4.5” wide at base, narrowing to 3” dia at the top. This lamp was found decades ago at New Pass, NV. According to historian Stan Paher, New Pass District, in the Shoshone mountain range ,was organized in 1864 shortly after gold was discovered. The five-stamp mill at Warm Springs (aka Petersen’s) was moved to Austin and milled 12,000 tons of ore before it closed. Although there was some activity about the turn of the century, by 1920 all had ceased [Ref: www.forgottennevada.org/sites/newpass.html]. From the M.D. Kast Collection.
